LIFT launched in late 2020 and positioned itself between FlySafair's no-frills model and SAA's full-service product. The airline operates exclusively on the JNB-CPT and JNB-DUR trunk routes, with Airbus A320 aircraft configured in a single-class layout. What you pay for is schedule choice, free seat selection, complimentary still and sparkling water, and a deliberately calmer cabin experience than the larger low-cost competitors. Fares typically sit R200-R600 above the FlySafair price floor on the same date pair — a small premium that buys a more flexible change policy and a more pleasant boarding flow.

The LIFT booking flow is the shortest of any South African airline website — three steps to a confirmed booking, with date-flexibility comparison built into the fare display. Online check-in opens twenty-four hours before departure through the dedicated check-in portal. Where LIFT genuinely differs from competitors is the change policy: standard fares allow date changes for a small fee right up until a few hours before departure, and the airline is unusually generous about same-day flight switches when seats are available. For business travellers whose plans shift, LIFT is often the better choice on a same-week booking even when FlySafair is technically cheaper. Routes are limited though, so LIFT is rarely the right answer outside the JNB-CPT-DUR triangle.
