Practical notes: South African passport holders need an Australian visa before travelling, even for short tourist stays. The eVisitor and ETA systems do not apply to South African passports — the standard Visitor visa (subclass 600) is required, and processing typically takes one to four weeks, so apply well in advance. Online check-in opens twenty-four hours before departure. Perth airport's transit experience is straightforward but the immigration formalities for through-passengers can add forty minutes — build buffer time.
