Airlink runs a weekly Saturday flight from Johannesburg via Walvis Bay, replacing the RMS St Helena mail ship that previously served the island. It is a niche leisure destination known for its Napoleon exile heritage, endemic wirebirds and the world's largest living land animal — Jonathan the tortoise, estimated to be over 190 years old.
