Book Johannesburg to Hoedspruit Flights

Hoedspruit Airport (Eastgate) sits at the edge of the Greater Kruger ecosystem in Limpopo, and essentially every passenger on this route is on a safari itinerary. Airlink is the sole scheduled carrier, running multiple daily options between OR Tambo and Eastgate. At one hour flight time, this is among the shorter domestic sectors from Johannesburg — close enough that some guests driving from a Pretoria address might weigh the road against the flight, though the time saving versus a five-hour Limpopo road trip is real for most Jo'burg originations.

Eastgate handles the private reserves of the Timbavati, Klaserie, Thornybush and Kapama, and most flights are timed to align with lodge check-in windows rather than general departure convenience. The airport is a small, open-sided facility with characteristic bushveld informality — guests are often met by lodge representatives on the apron and transferred directly. Lodge check-in at Eastgate is a different experience from OR Tambo's scale: there is a single terminal, minimal retail, and the focus is on getting guests into vehicles quickly.

May is the cheapest month on this route; December and January are the most expensive, when both Kruger lodge bookings and peak holiday demand converge. For travellers connecting from a long-haul international flight, Airlink's morning Hoedspruit departures from OR Tambo require a domestic terminal arrival well before the flight, which is straightforward if the international arrival was the previous evening. Flying into Eastgate and exiting overland via the N40 toward Johannesburg is sometimes used as a one-way itinerary for guests who want to begin the safari by air and end with a road trip through the Blyde River Canyon.
