Maun Airport has more light-aircraft traffic than almost any airport in Africa outside South Africa itself. The scheduled commercial services to Johannesburg -- Airlink, Air Botswana and SAA -- carry the commercial passenger volume in and out of the town, but Maun's real aviation identity is the fleet of Cessna 206s, 208 Caravans, and similar bush planes that depart constantly for private camps in the Okavango Delta's inner reaches. The OR Tambo sector is how guests arrive and depart from the commercial world; the bush plane is how they actually enter the Delta and reach the lodges that sit on islands accessible only by air, mokoro, or boat.
Virtually all Maun-originating traffic to Johannesburg is safari-related: leisure guests completing their Okavango stay, lodge staff rotating out on schedule changes, supplies-sector operators running fresh food and equipment in, and camp maintenance personnel on planned visits. There is no meaningful business tourism between Maun and Gauteng outside the hospitality and game-reserve sector. The peak travel window runs May through October during the Delta's annual flood cycle, when water levels are at their highest and game concentrates along the edges of the spreading floodwater. November is the cheapest month; July-August carries the highest fares because the flood depth then is most favourable for game concentration and mokoro travel. South African passport holders enter Botswana visa-free for up to 90 days; the stamp is automatic on arrival at Maun Airport with a valid passport and return ticket. CemAir appears in the listing as a domestic feed carrier rather than as a direct Maun-Johannesburg operator. Air Botswana's schedule from Maun is worth checking alongside Airlink, as the two carriers sometimes offer complementary morning and afternoon timing that suits safari guest transfer windows.
